THE THIN LINE

Touring nationally to schools, colleges, treatment centers and conferences, this one-woman show is a dynamic, compelling, and educationally appropriate program addressing eating disorders.

In the United States, as many as 10 million women and 1 million men are fighting a life and death battle with an eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia. Approximately 25 million more are struggling with other forms of disordered eating.

Add Verb Productions' The Thin Line breaks the silence that traditionally surrounds eating disorders, the mental illness with the highest fatality rate in this country. Eating disorders are real, complex, and devastating conditions that have serious consequences for health, productivity, and relationships.

The Thin Line is a 30-minute story of one girl's struggle with her eating disorder and the struggles of those close to her in their efforts to understand and to help. The Thin Line helps audiences recognize the symptoms of eating disorders, promotes prevention and intervention strategies, and acts as a catalyst for individuals, friends, and family to seek support and take action. Following the performance, the audience has a chance to interact with area resources, local counselors and medical experts who can continue to provide support long after the play is over. This required post-performance discussion provides an opportunity to strengthen connections between your local organizations and individuals dealing with eating disorders in their community.

When booking The Thin Line, you will receive a discussion guide and NEDA curriculum materials that will help prepare your community for addressing the issues surrounding eating disorders. Add Verbās staff is also available to help you locate your local resources and to provide support for planning your post-performance discussion.

Chances are that every single person either knows someone who has an eating disorder, or knows of someone who has disordered eating -- the precursor to a full-blown case. The sooner intervention occurs, the better a person's chance of complete recovery from the impact of anorexia, bulimia, exercise bulimia, compulsive binge eating and other eating disorders.
